April 17: St. Stephen Harding

Born: In England (the date is not known)

Died: April 17, 1134.

This heavenly Saint was a Monk. He was an eloquent speaker of English, French and Latin.

He was a man of great faith and very enthusiastic in matters concerning God; a team-spirited man, and a co-founder of a monastery at Citeaux. He wrote the Carta Caritatis (Charter of Love) an important document for the Cistercian Order.

He is believed to be the Founder of this great Order. He was venerated by many in London and Hungary.

He died in a very old age in 1134.

Reflection:

Let us be wholeheartedly use our God given gifts in serving and worshipping Him in imitation of St. Stephen. Amen.
