January 27: St. Angela Merici, Virgin

BORN: 1474 (Italy)

DIED: 1540

Saint Angela joined the Tertiary of Saint Francis but later in a vision discovered what mission God had for her that of reaching out to souls in a different dimension.

She later established a school for the instruction of young girls.

Saint Angela was the founder of the Ursulines at Brescia and imparted in them the  devotion of every corporal and spiritual work of mercy with special emphasis on education. She had passion for the education of girls even in their own families. She was instrumental to some changes in women’s role in the society.

Saint Angela through her schools contributed immensely in strengthening  and extending Catholicism and safeguarding Italy in what is now called “modern unbelief”.

Reflection: Lord, please help us to be charitable and prudent in our dealings and service of you Amen.
