BORN: 1858 in Philadelphia
Katharine was an ardent lover of God and neighbor. She made a lot of material and spiritual sacrifices for the Blacks and native Americans.
She was the founder of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Indians and Colored People. Their Charism is “Work for the betterment of those called to serve.”
She took active part in the opening of the first Mission schools for Indians in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in Mississippi River for native Americans and in Southern part of America for the blacks.
Tirelessly in 1915, she founded Xavier University in New Orleans. Until date her Congregation has professed many Sisters who are actively teaching in many schools in America.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Let us always think of how to help make our World a BETTER Place with special regard for the poor.
