DIED: JUNE 13, 1231.
Saint Anthony was a native of Lisbon, Portugal. At an early age his parents placed him the Religious Community of the Canons who took care of him including his education.
He was influenced by the exemplary life of these Canons and could not resist joining their Order called the Regular Canons of Saint Augustine. He witnessed and saw the relics of five Franciscan martyrs.
He was a professor of Theology who made a great success in teaching and imparting knowledge, a powerful preacher.
He was a miracle worker just like his Lord. He died on 13th June 1231 and was canonized the follow year by Pope Gregory 1X.
He is invoked at the loss of any item and is known as the patron of those who lost something.
